St. Louis to Joplin

Big Ride 22

Day 6

St. Louis to Joplin

This one will be short today because it’s late.

Got out of St. Louis this morning at a decent hour and hit the road westward.

Soon I was in the foothills of the Ozarks and the ride was beautiful. The roads were in a lot better shape than yesterday and I made good time to Cuba, Missouri, “The Mural City.” My favorite was the “Gold Star Boys,” a mural with the faces of some local boys who gave their lives in the Second World War.

The Missouri Hick BBQ is also there.

As is the old Wagon Wheel Motor Court.

From Cuba it was on to the Fanning Outpost, where they have a huge general store that has everything…

Including a giant rocking chair.

Then it was to the Devil’s Elbow Bridge.

Then on to Sweetwater BBQ.

Then to Uranus…where they make fudge. And that’s all I am going to say about that.

Then to Springfield, where there was a really cool car museum with an authentic batmobile.

Then to Joplin, where Bonnie and Clyde had a shootout with some local law enforcement guys. They were holed up in a garage apartment in town here.

Tomorrow, Oklahoma City.
